Getting to Bansko by bus is straightforward, with a mix of year-round and seasonal options depending on when you're travelling.

For regular travel, companies like Union Ivkoni and Popov run scheduled coaches between Sofia and Bansko throughout the year, with several departures a day and connections on to nearby towns like Blagoevgrad and Razlog. These run to a fixed timetable regardless of season.

Traventuria takes a different approach, running periodic shuttles rather than a year-round line - most active in winter, when they time departures around flight arrivals and departures at Sofia Airport. These are aimed squarely at skiers flying in and out, with pickups and drop-offs coordinated to match flight schedules rather than running on a fixed daily route.

Because service can change from one season to the next, it's worth checking current timetables before you travel rather than assuming last year's schedule still holds.

Sofia

Sofia has four different pick-up/drop-off points for the Bansko buses, and it's worth knowing which one you're dealing with before you travel.

Traventuria's shuttles stop directly at the two airport terminals, T1 and T2, picking passengers up right outside arrivals - convenient if you're flying in or out, since there's no need to get into the city at all.

Other operators use one of two city-based stations instead. Some stop at Sofia's Central Bus Station, next to the Central Railway Station just northeast of downtown - the more central option, within easy walking distance or a short metro ride of most hotels. Others use Ovcha Kupel, a station southwest of the centre, out towards the edge of the city.

Ovcha Kupel isn't as awkward as it sounds, though: it sits right by its own metro stop on the M3 line, so from there it's a straightforward ride into the centre, roughly 15–20 minutes to reach the main interchange stations downtown. To continue to the airport, you'd change onto the M4 line, most easily by switching lines at Serdika station - allow a bit under an hour door to door with the connection.

Worth checking which station your specific service uses when you book, since it changes your onward journey considerably.
